Do you want flatter, more sculpted abs but aren’t sure where to start?  Well, you’re in luck.  This article will show you exactly what you need to do to get the abs you want, without spending hours in the gym or starving yourself.  Here are 5 easy ways to get flatter, more sculpted abs.

  1. Burn the fat.  Sculpted abs aren’t all about crunches.  If you want your abs to look their best, you have to get rid of the extra fat that’s keeping them hidden.  To do this, you’re going to need to burn some calories.  A balanced workout routine can help you do this.  Any balanced routine should include cardio exercise and strength training exercises.  Strength training is especially important, since the more muscle you have the more calories you burn.  If it makes it easier, you can alternate your cardio and strength training on opposite days.
  2.

  3. Work your abs.  While burning the fat around your abs will make them visible, the only way to sculpt them is to perform targeted exercises.  There are a number of ways you can work your abs.  You can do floor exercises like crunches and leg raises.  You can use machines to do exercises like the Captain’s Chair or resisted crunches.  You can even work your abs on an exercise ball.  It really doesn’t matter which exercises you choose to do, as long as you work your abs.  You can add an ab workout into your strength training routine, or do it on a separate day.
  4.

  5. Eat a healthy diet.  It’s not going to do you any good to spend an hour on the treadmill or do dozens of crunches if you don’t watch what you eat.  You don’t want to put all that effort in to blow it on junk food.  If you really want amazing abs, then you’re going to have to eat a healthy diet.  Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t splurge every now and then.  You just need to make sure that the majority of the time you eat healthy foods.  This will make sure you keep your abs in the best shape possible.
  6.

  7. Drink lots of water.  Getting enough water everyday is very important, especially when you’re working out and sweating.  Your body won’t burn as many calories if it’s dehydrated.  You also won’t have as much energy to get through your workouts.  Another reason to drink lots of water is that it will keep your stomach from looking bloated, and a bloated stomach is the opposite of what you’re trying to achieve.
  8.

  9. Get plenty of rest.  If you don’t get enough rest, your muscles can’t repair themselves properly.  Since your body builds new muscle as it repairs the other muscle, it’s important to rest.  You should be getting plenty of rest each night, as well as resting your muscles in between workouts.  You should never work the same muscles two days in a row.  This is why you may want to alternate between cardio and strength training workouts.

These are just a few of the easy ways to get flatter, more sculpted abs.  You need to burn the fat around the muscle, sculpt your abs with targeted exercises, eat a healthy diet, drink lots of water and get plenty of rest.  If you want a step by step plan, you can check out some of the great online guides for six pack abs.

If you’re trying to sculpt your abs, you probably know how frustrating it can be to do countless exercises over several months and still not see results.  It can make you want to give up and live with your slightly less than perfect abs.  If this has been a problem for you, there’s a good chance you may not be doing the exercises correctly.  To see dramatic results in your abs, it’s absolutely necessary to perform your ab workouts correctly, so here are 4 tips to do just that.

  • If you start to feel any pain in your back, you should stop doing the exercise immediately.  When ab exercises aren’t done correctly, they can injure your back.  Obviously, pain in your back while doing the exercise is a sign that you’ve possibly injured it.  When you start to feel the pain, stop what you’re doing, and let your back rest.  You can go back to doing your exercises the next day you have scheduled if the pain is gone.  To prevent further pain or injury, make sure you control the exercises and do them slowly.  Good form is very important when you’re working yourabs.

  • Remember to breathe when you’re doing your ab exercises.  Many people have a tendency to hold their breath while they perform the exercises.  It’s important that you don’t do this.  Your body needs to deliver oxygen to your muscles and your organs, especially when you’re exercising.  When you hold your breath, you make it harder for your heart and other vital organs to get the oxygen they need to function properly.  Holding your breath while working your abs can also cause them to pooch out more, since you’re contracting the muscle around the air in your abdomen.  You should breathe out as you contract the muscle and breathe in when you release the contraction.  Breathing this way can also make the exercise a little easier for you.

  • Perform each exercise slowly.  The slower you perform the exercise, the harder you work your abs.  When you’re trying to get through your entire workout, it can be tempting to rush through the exercises, getting the reps done as fast as you can.  If you want great abs, you need to slow down a little.  It would be better for you to do fewer reps at a slower pace, than it would to do several reps quickly.  When you perform the reps slowly, you should start to notice that your abs start to burn much faster.  This is a sign that you’re giving your abs a great workout.

  • Focus on quality instead of quality when you’re working your abs.  You can do hundreds of crunches everyday and still not see results.  Why is this?  It’s usually because you’re not performing the exercise correctly.  You’re just speeding through, trying to do as many reps as possible.  If you take the time to really learn how to do the exercise correctly, you can do a lot less reps and see much better results.  You might want to start out only doing 10 reps of each exercise.  This way you can put all of your focus into doing the exercise correctly.  Once you get the correct form down, you can add in more reps and sets.

As you can see, it really isn’t that hard to perform your exercises correctly.  You just have to listen to your body, remember to breathe, take your time, and focus on quality over quantity.  Once you start doing your exercises correctly, you should start to see more noticeable results in your abs.

You can spend hours doing countless crunches and still not have the six pack abs you want.  How is this possible?  Well, if you’re not eating the right way, it’s likely that you have a layer of fat covering your hard earned muscles.  If you want to lose that fat around your midsection to uncover your six pack abs, the smart eating strategies below can help.

  • Eat fewer calories- If you can cut your daily calorie intake by just 250 calories, you’ll lose a pound every other week doing this alone.  250 calories may seem like a lot, but it’s really not.  If you make a few adjustments to the way you eat, you shouldn’t have a problem cutting your calories.  For example, if you’re making a sandwich for lunch, use mustard instead of mayo and leave the cheese off.  That’s probably almost half of the calories right there.  Things like this really add up over the day and can make a big difference on your waistline.

  • Eat 6 times a day- This strategy is very important if you want six pack abs.  When you eat 6 times a day, compared to 3, your body burns fat more efficiently.  This way of eating also increases your metabolism, so you’ll burn more fat throughout the day.  Of course since you’re eating 6 times instead of 3, you need to make sure that the meals are small.  You don’t want to eat more calories in a day, so portion sizing will be especially important when you’re eating this way.

  • Eat more protein- There are so many great benefits of eating protein.  If you want to build muscle, it’s absolutely necessary that you eat enough protein.  Protein also keeps you fuller for longer periods than other types of food.  Every person requires a different amount of protein everyday.  It depends on your body and your fitness goals.  You can find several online guides that will tell you exactly how much protein your diet should have everyday.  The best sources of protein are poultry, fish, nuts, and even low fat dairy products.  If you want to see great results, you can add in a little protein to each one of your meals.

  • Eat carbs early in the day- Every diet should include a good amount of healthy carbohydrates.  They’re necessary for your body to function, and they give you lots of energy.  Since you usually need more energy earlier in the day, it makes the most sense to eat the majority of your carbs during this time.  At night, you don’t really need carbs to keep you going, and you won’t have time to burn them off before you go to bed, so you may not want to load up on them at dinner.  Instead, you can try to eat most of your carbs at breakfast, lunch, and your morning and afternoon snacks.  This way you get the carbs your body needs, but you have plenty of time to burn them off during the day.

While a proper diet is important for six pack abs, it doesn’t have to be difficult.  The smart eating strategies above will make sure that your stomach stays trim so your six pack abs can show through.
